Our Story
Craftique Studio was born from a simple but powerful feeling: not belonging.
Grace Talavera has been crocheting since she was seven years old and knitting since she was fifteen. For her, fiber arts have always been more than a hobby — they're relaxing, therapeutic, and a way to express herself. But when she walked into yarn shops as an adult, something felt off. The spaces often felt unwelcoming, the jargon was intimidating, and the atmosphere reinforced an outdated stereotype: that yarn crafts are only for grandmothers.
During the COVID pandemic in 2020, Grace pursued her Craft Yarn Council certification to become an instructor. She was searching for community — but couldn't find the kind of inclusive, inspiring space she envisioned. So she decided to create it.
Within just six weeks, Grace went from concept to signing a lease, connecting with vendors, and opening the doors. Craftique Studio officially opened in June 2024.
A True Family Effort
Craftique Studio has always been a family business in every sense of the word. Grace's husband Mauricio has been by her side through every late night, every challenge, and every big leap forward — bringing his background in operations, technology, and sales management to complement Grace's vision.
Together, Grace and Mauricio combine over 25 years of corporate experience. They launched Craftique while working full-time jobs in tech and raising two young children. The first year meant no days off, no vacations — just a relentless commitment to building something that mattered to their community.
That dedication shows in every corner of the store.
What Makes Us Different
We specialize in fiber arts, yarns, and inspiration — but at the heart of everything we do is community:
- Curated Yarn Selection — Grace personally hand-selects every yarn. Her rule: "If it's not soft, I don't want it." We're the South Texas flagship store for Circulo Yarns.
- Morpholana® Exclusive Hand-Dyed Yarn — Our in-house brand, dyed by Grace in small batches. Available here and at morpholana.com.
- Structured Classes & Workshops — Kids crochet, adult knitting, private lessons, and summer camps. No jargon, no judgment.
- Weekly Community Gatherings — Twilight Knits (Thu 5–7pm), Maker Circle (Sat 10am–12pm), Sit & Knit (Sat 2–6pm), and Cafecito y Lana (Tue 3:30–5:30pm) for our Spanish-speaking community.
- Welcoming to Everyone — Beginner to advanced, kids to adults, English and Spanish. You belong here.
