Double Knitting: Reversible Colorwork Saturday Nov 21 | 11 am
Description
Double Knitting
Two colors, two layers, one beautifully reversible fabric
About this Class
Double knitting is a two-color, two-layer technique that produces a fully reversible fabric with a clean pattern on both sides at once — no floats to catch a finger on, no "wrong side" to hide. The mechanics come down to a steady rhythm of knitting one color forward and slipping the other color back, which makes this technique surprisingly approachable for anyone already comfortable with basic knit and purl stitches.
In this three-hour session, you'll work through the full double-knitting sequence from cast-on to bind-off, learning how to read a simple chart and build even tension between two layers as you go. The result looks far more advanced than what you're actually doing stitch-by-stitch — which makes it one of the most rewarding "stretch" workshops we offer.
What you'll learn
- How to cast on and set up stitches for two-color double knitting
- The core double-knitting rhythm — knit the front-color stitch, slip and purl the back-color stitch — and how to keep even tension between the two layers
- How to read a simple double-knitting chart and translate it into the knit/slip sequence
- How to bind off cleanly so both layers close together without puckering
What's included
- Expert instruction through each step of the double-knitting sequence
- A simple chart to practice reading and working your pattern
- Hands-on guidance for tension and rhythm throughout class
What to bring
- Two contrasting colors of DK or worsted weight yarn (~50g each)
- Knitting needles in the appropriate size for your yarn
- Scissors and a tapestry needle
Is this class for you?
This class is designed for knitters who are comfortable with knit and purl stitches and ready to take their next step into colorwork — without the intimidation of stranded knitting floats. Double knitting builds directly on what you already know, and by the end of the session you'll have the foundation to continue building your own projects confidently at home.
No colorwork experience required — all double-knitting techniques will be taught from scratch in class.
Class registration is non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, please contact Craftique Studio as soon as possible. Whenever possible, we will work with you to transfer your registration to another session or provide store credit according to our class policies.
