Hardanger Embroidery Essentials – Beginner Workshop
Description
Hardanger Embroidery Essentials
Beginner Workshop · 3 Hours
About the Workshop
A Norwegian treasure, brought to life stitch by stitch
Hardanger embroidery is one of the most elegant needlework traditions in the world — and it looks far more complicated than it is. This counted-thread technique from Norway combines precise geometric patterns with delicate cutwork and drawn-thread work to create pieces that are genuinely breathtaking.
Originating in the Hardanger region of Norway in the 17th century, this style is known for its crisp kloster blocks, intricate borders, and lacy openwork details — all worked in white or ecru thread on evenweave fabric. The result is clean, sophisticated, and timeless. Think heirloom table linens, delicate bookmarks, and show-stopping decorative pieces.
In this 3-hour workshop, Terri Michele King will guide you through every step — from counting your fabric to making your first careful cut — so you leave with a completed sampler and the confidence to keep going at home.
