About this class
Cross-stitch is one of the oldest and most universal embroidery techniques, with examples found across cultures from ancient Egypt to medieval Europe — samplers stitched by young hands learning their letters date back centuries and were often the very first piece of needlework a child ever completed. In this class, young makers will learn the basic cross-stitch and design their own monogrammed initial on small-scale fabric, finished as a mini hoop or patch to keep or gift. A great introduction to counted thread work and a fun, low-pressure first embroidery project — come sit with us and stitch something to be proud of.

Is this class for you?
This class is designed to be a warm, low-pressure first embroidery project for young makers of all ages. No prior needlework experience is needed — we'll walk through the basic cross-stitch together, step by step, before turning it loose on a personal monogrammed design. Whether this is a first stitch ever or a next step for an already-crafty kiddo, everyone leaves with a finished piece they made themselves.
Prerequisite: None required. Open to ages 10-16 and all skill levels — a great option for first-time stitchers.

Terri Michele King
Terri Michele is a Houston-based fiber arts educator and the founder of Terri Michele Fiber Arts Studio. She holds a 2015 Diploma in Technical Hand Embroidery from the Royal School of Needlework — a prestigious institution based at Hampton Court Palace in the UK that has been training embroiderers to the highest professional standards for over 150 years. Terri Michele brings that same level of expertise and care to every class she teaches, making even the most intricate techniques feel approachable and fun.
